QRS Pre-Calibrated Mouthpiece

All QRS spirometers use pre-calibrated, disposable mouthpieces. These mouthpieces are individually calibrated during production using the same equipment LDS Hospital uses to validate spirometers against the American Thoracic Society's Recommendations for the Standardization of Spirometry.

These pneumotachs are individually-wrapped and single patient use only, but can be used up to 20 times over a 10 day period for that patient, if the fabric does not become contaminated. The patient should open, handle, and dispose of his/her own mouthpiece and should return it to its plastic bag to avoid contamination if future use is anticipated.

The QRS mouthpieces reduce the liability for cross-contamination and eliminate the need for sterilization. This can save your staff time and money. The ATS/ERS 2005 Standardization of Spirometry document recommends a calibration plan for disposable mouthpieces. Because QRS mouthpieces are pre-calibrated in production, there is no need to test every mouthpiece. QRS recommends implementing a quality assurance program to periodically select and test calibration on a sample of disposable mouthpiece pneumotachs.
